Used separately, massage and (infrared) heat are two of the best natural ways to relieve stress, muscle pain, boost blood circulation and rejuvenate your entire body.
Combining both? Even better!
It’s the fastest way to get to that Ahhhhh moment after another stressful day.
(A real foot saver)
But which infrared foot massager should you choose? A one that vibrates, kneads or a rolling massager? Maybe both?
Is it important to have different heating levels? Different speed settings?
Which one is the best return for your money?
I’ll answer all of these questions and more, and share the 2 best heated foot massagers today (and why) – Right here.
Infrared Heated Foot Massagers: Important Features
Not all heated foot massagers are created equal. Some have different speed settings, heat levels, some have only kneading massage, some have kneading and rolling, and the list goes on.
Here are the most important features to look for when you buy an infrared foot massager:
1. Infrared Heat (Not so Obvious as You Would Have Thought)
This may seem obvious to you, but some home foot massagers offer “regular” heat which is not the same as infrared heat.
Infrared heat is invisible red light (about 660nm) which penetrates much deeper into your skin and tissues, all the way to your bones.
It boosts blood circulation and promotes faster relaxation and healing of your muscles, joints and nerves.
Infrared heat, for example, can really help with neuropathy pain, as opposed to regular-electric heat.
Make sure the foot massagers includes infrared heat (like this one), and is not defined as simply a heat massager.
2. Speed Settings
Just like foot massagers, we humans are not created equal. Some of us like/need fast vibrating or kneading massage, while others will find it painful or uncomfortable.
Since the entire point is to relax and relieve stress, a massager that operates too fast or too slow would be a waste of your money.
The best FIR foot massagers offer a few speed levels so you can find the ultimate setting for you.
The Carepeutic Heated Rolling Massager, for example, has no less than 5 intensity levels you can choose from (and costs less than 80$!)
3. Infrared Temperature Control
Just like the best infrared heating pads have different heat levels (about 5 of them to be exact), a high quality foot massager will feature different heat settings.
4. Massage Types
Some foot spa massagers feature rolling massage, others shiatsu kneading massage and others combine vibrating with either kneading or rolling or both.
The more options, obviously, the more chance you’ll enjoy the exact type of massage that fits you most and relaxes you most.
In this aspect, the Zyllion Foot Massager is the winner: It has 4 pre-set programs and manual setting, plys 3 focus programs.
5. Automatic Shut-Off
Another great feature is a timer. Too much massage is not a good idea, as is too much heating time.
And if you don’t want to check your watch every minute, an automatic shut-off feature would be a great bonus.
The Sharper Image foot massager, for example, features an automatic heat shut-off after 15 minutes.
6. Toe-Touch Control
A toe-touch control feature allows you to turn on and off the massager, and even select the heat option and massage type by simply touching the controls with your toe.
7. Removable/Washable Cover
A removable cover allows for easy cleaning, otherwise you’ll be advised to use the foot massager only after a shower or with clean socks.
The Zyllion Foot Massager, for example, has a zippered removable cover you can easily remove, pop in the washer and drier to clean it – Hassle free.
8. Feet Size
Make sure that the infrared foot massager fits your size. If you happen to have a more-than-average feet-size, the wrong foot massager may squeeze your feet too much making it entirely uncomfortable.
The Zyllion Foot massager, for example, will feel a bit too tight for men with larger feet.
The 2 Finest Infrared Heated Foot Massagers
After a lot of research, and considering all of the important features above, here are the 2 best infrared foot massagers today:
1. Sharper Image Deep Kneading Shiatsu Foot Massager
The Sharper Image solid-built foot massager combines the ancient Asian principles of Shiatsu – Stimulating acupressure points on your feet – And healing infrared heat.
Massage Types – Shiatsu Massage – Deep kneading Massage. Features a counter-rotational massage including your thumb and massage rollers which vibrate and provide deep kneading.
** The 3 spinners for each foot can be a bit tickling at first, but more downward pressure will stop that.
It feels almost like someone is sitting there massaging your feet for you with their hands.
Infrared Heat – With Toe-Touch control.
** It doesn’t feel hot at first but slowly heats up to nice, soothing warmth. It feels wonderful!
(You can’t control the heat level though)
Feet Size – This heated foot massager will fit even a large size 15 foot.
Ease of Use – The Sharper Image is very easy to use, you just tap the power button once to turn it on, again for heat, and a third time to turn it off (you can do it in the dark too).
Speed Control – No. It has one fixed speed level.
Removable Cover – No. You’ll have to use with clean socks (but don’t worry – Infrared heat easily penetrates them).
Automatic Shut Off – Yes. The Sharper Image foot massager will turn off after 20 minutes automatically.
Price – The best price for the Sharper Image was found on Amazon, but another reason to buy through Amazon is their huge help with returning the product (if you don’t like it) and getting a refund.
Sharper Image Pros and Cons
Through my research, the Sharper Image foot massager is a great return for your money. It’s solid, motor is strong and can keep for years.
Pros – It’s comfortable, fits most foot-sizes, massage is quite firm and heats well.
It has an automatic shut off and generally looks nice in all black and the nice rotating red lights when it’s working.
Cons – Not a great fit for highly ticklish people (but can be controlled through downward pressure), doesn’t have a removable cover and speed control.
2. Zyllion Foot Massager with Heat
The Zyllion heated foot massager is about 3X the price of the Sharper Image, mainly due to its many different features, which allow for a fully customized foot massage, exactly the way you like it.
– 4 pre-set automatic programs
– 3 focus programs that target specific zones of your feet
– 3 Speed levels
– Manual Option – Where you can specify massage speed or intensity and direction of spinners.
Massage Types – Kneading + rolling. Kneading goes on your entire foot and the rolling feature on your soles.
** The kneading feature is great. It doesn’t hurt at all because it doesn’t involve too much pressure on your foot.
Infrared Heating – Included.
Speed Levels – 3 Different levels.
Feet Size – May be a little tight for men with large foot sizes.
Removable Cover – The Zyllion comes with a zippered removable cover, which is important because your feet may sweat from the infrared heating.
Automatic shut-off – No.
Toe Touch – No.
Ease of Use – Very easy to us, comes with a very simple remote that allows you to choose the program you’d like or set it manually.
Price – It costs much more than the Sharper Image one, but is much more adjustable. There is no fixed speed or one massage direction like the first one.
And if it does the work – Eliminates your stress and muscle pain at the end of the day – It’s worth every penny.
Zyllion Foot Massager Pros and Cons
Through my research, I’ve found that the Zyllion Foot Massager is the most customizable heated foot massager in the market today.
The massage is too fast for you? You can slow it down. And you can make it faster. Rolling and kneading work at the same time so you feel like 2 different massage therapists are working on your feet at the same time.
Its remote is very user friendly and it’s an easy to use foot massager.
Cons – Doesn’t have an automatic shut off and may not fit for large-feet men.
Infrared Heated Foot Massagers – Conclusion
Whether it’s after a busy day working on your feet, running errands or just hours of cooking – Your sore and tired feet need a good rest and pampering.
It’s not luxury; it’s about taking care of your body every day so you can keep being active and healthy for the rest of your life.
An infrared heat massager is probably the easiest and most comfortable way to take your aches, pains and stress away at the end of the day, and my research has found that the Sharper Image Foot Massager and the Zyllion Foot Massager are the 2 best heated foot massagers in 2015.
