You won’t find the Therasage PS2002 Portable Far Infrared Sauna for less than 600$, no matter where you’ll look.
(Unless you don’t mind buying a used one on eBay, drenched in someone else’s sweat…)
So…Is the Therasage portable sauna worth its price?
Is it better than the cheaper competitors? Does it keep its promise to be safe (low EMF), make you sweat like crazy and detox, and eliminate your pain?
Is it easy to set up and use? Is it comfortable? Is it built with great materials?
The answers are all here for you, in my review for Therasage FIR Portable Sauna.
- Can be folded, portable
- Includes negative ions
- Low electricity usage
- Easy set-up and storage
- Includes a chair
- No EMF radiation (important!)
- Good customer service
Therasage PS2002 Portable Far Infrared Sauna Features (Reviewed)
The Therasage personal infrared sauna can look a little funny, I admit, especially when someone is sitting in it with their head poking out.
But as someone who can’t stand breathing dry or steamed air, I was completely sold when I saw that you can keep your head out (and read a book or watch TV) while effortlessly detoxing in your living room.
The Therasage exterior is heavy black fabric in a quilted, satin sheen. The interior is metallic and reflective fabric above and large mesh over the infrared panels.
The floor is foam and the sturdy seat is canvas. With mine it hasn’t off gassed much and doesn’t smell.
It comes with a decent little camping chair that fits inside for you to sit on, though you can replace with any other chair you like.
When the Therasage portable sauna is folded for storage it is 42″ in length, 33″ in depth, and 7″ in width. When it is opened up for usage, the 7″ becomes approximately 30″ in height.
It weighs about 28 pounds and comes with a carrying case which makes it easy to travel with (and you will probably want to…).
Here’s a video so you can see exactly how the Therasage PS2002 looks like:
2. Far Infrared Technology
Rather than direct heat like in a dry or steam sauna, The Therasage personal sauna heats your body with deep penetrating infrared waves, while the heating panels do not get too hot to touch.
When I get into this thing (after letting it heat up for 5-10 minutes), I can immediately feel the infrared waves going to work on my body.
It’s almost like stepping into some kind of otherworldly hot tub, except it’s dry until I start sweating.
And you sweat. A lot. There’s a good reason a few well-known doctors (Dr. Oz, Dr. Sircus) have claimed the infrared saunas may be the best natural detox product available.”
To make it a bit clearer, here’s a little comparison between FIR saunas and traditional saunas, taken from my post about the proven benefits of infrared saunas:
Traditional Sauna vs. Infrared Sauna
1. Traditional sauna uses hot coals + water for steam. Infrared sauna uses infrared heating panels.
2. Humidity in Trad. Sauna is user controlled. In FIR sauna – Normal house humidity levels.
3. Temperature in Trad. Sauna is 185-195 degrees F and 120-150 degrees F. in FIR sauna.
4. Start up in Trad. Sauna is 40-45 minutes. In FIR sauna it can be used immediately.
5. Power required in Trad. Sauna is 6kw and only 1.6 kw in FIR sauna.
Far Infrared Therapy Health Benefits
I’m sure you already know this, but here’s a short reminder for the health benefits of the Therasage PS2002:
1. Full body detox through sweating.
2. Boosting metabolism and blood circulation (you feel completely energized after 30 minutes of use).
3. Weight loss – Burning about 600 calories per hour (while watching TV and relaxing).
4. Inhibits the development of fungi, yeasts, bacteria and molds through a “fever reaction” (rising temperature that destroys them).
5. Benefits of exercise without exercising (heart health, reduced blood pressure etc).
6. Drug-free pain relief – Infrared light therapy was proven as a natural way to dramatically relieve any type of pain – Muscles, nerves, bones).
7. Anti-aging – Detoxing and sweating makes you look and feel younger. Even the skin feels more hydrated and smooth!
If you want to know more about the scientifically proven benefits of infrared light therapy – Check out this post (opens in new window).
3. Tourmaline Heating Discs
The heating panels are made with Tourmaline discs, which I think are a big part of what makes this the best far infrared sauna (along with the low EMF radiation!)
The tourmaline discs heat quickly, efficiently, and very evenly, delivering infrared heat consistently and deeply into every part of your body.
The Tourmaline (a semi-precious stone) also releases negative ions, which help improve mood, reduce stress, and even help you breathe more easily.
Can you recall the air around waterfalls? how the rain smells like? The special “smell” of the air is from the abundance of negative ions created in these places.
Can the Panels Become Too Hot to Touch?
They are not very hot to the touch because this is a unit that uses infrared rays to heat up, like a microwave does, vs. like an oven.
You should be able to press your hand against them and they will just be very warm, not hot. They are not expected to be really hot…that would be a regular sauna.
4. Five Heat Settings
The Ps2002 has 5 heat settings, and even though they’re not labeled with temperatures, it goes up to around 140 degrees.
Also, there’s a built-in timer with an automatic shut-off.
5. Low Impact on Electricity Bill
For a machine that heats you up so well, it uses less electricity than even a hair dryer.
This a great, especially in the winter.
6. No EMF Radiation (Important!)
You probably know that EMF radiation is a bad idea, and known to cause cancer.
While I haven’t checked the EMF myself, I watched a youtube video in which a woman uses an EMF meter and showed the results in real-time.
The EMF was only found next to the electrical box itself.
Is the Therasage Sauna Safe for People with Metal Implants?
Metal pins, rods, artificial joints or any other surgical implants generally reflect infrared waves and thus are not heated by this system. Nevertheless, you should consult your physician prior to using an infrared sauna.
Warranty is one year. I would recommend buying the Therasage sauna on Amazon, for its reliable return and money back guarantee policy.
If there are any issued with the Therasage, the company is located outside of FT Lauderdale in Florida, with an actual phone and an actual person that picks up when you call.
So, repairs or parts replacement won’t be an issue.
Check out Amazon’s today special price for the Therasage PS2002 here.
Is the price worth it? In my eyes it certainly does. You can buy a cheap knock off from China that’ll probably break down after 6 months and you’ll have no one to talk to.
Plus, cheaper designs emit EMF radiation. Is it worth to risk your health for 200$? I don’t think so.
Again, I recommend buying from Amazon, the most reliable online store today.
Conclusion – Therasage Infrared Sauna Pros & Cons
If I didn’t consider the price at all, I would say that the Therasgae Far Infrared Portable Sauna is the Cadillac of personal FIR saunas.
** It’s well-built, sturdy, easy to set up, use and store and is roomy and comfortable.
** It features the incredible far infrared technology, through a natural source (Tourmaline discs), negative ions for mood boosting, 5 heat settings, a foldable chair and built-in timer for auto shut-off (and is completely silent!).
** The 2 most prominent pros are the Tourmaline discs and the absence of EMF radiation. No point in using an infrared sauna for health and risk your health in the process, right?
** The Company is located in the U.S with real people who answer you when you call and offer help in any issue you may have.
I would say that the only “problem” with the Therasage sauna is its price, though if you think about the cost of annual sessions at your local spa, it’s actually amazingly cost-effective.
I give this one full 5 stars, and recommend it to every person I care about.
(I wish I had enough money to buy it as a gift for everyone I love…)
